Illinois basketball: Illinois adds Oregon State transfer Ahmad Starks

Ahmad Starks finally made it official that he will be transferring from Oregon State University to Illinois.

Starks, a 5-foot-9 guard, averaged 10.4 points as a junior with the Beavers.

The Chicago native led OSU in the 3-point shooting, connecting on 64 of 162 (39.5 percent). He led the team in scoring in seven games.

Starks told Scott Powers, of ESPN Chicago, that he is making the jump to be closer to his ailing grandmother, and he is hoping to get a waiver for family hardship so he can begin playing next season.
As for his decision choosing Illinois, Starks told ESPN Chicago the following:
"It's the state school. It's always been big for me. I always liked watching it growing up, watching Dee Brown and those guys. I took a visit when Bruce Weber was the coach. I liked the situation there, and it didn't work out. Being close to home, the alumni situation, all of it is huge. They have a great fan base."
