Rivalry Grows Between Cardinals and Reds

For the second year in a row, the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds are easily the two best teams in the National League Central Division.

Last season, sparks flew between the Cardinals and Reds after Brandon Phillips referred to the Cardinals as a bunch of female dogs.  An on-field brawl ensued, and Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto kicked former Cardinals back-up catcher Jason Larue in the head, ending his career.

So, there was plenty of tension between the two teams this weekend, which ended in a series sweep by the Cincinnati Reds.  And while many predicted fireworks would happen on Saturday with Cueto on the mound for the Reds, the explosion happened at the end of Sunday's 9-7 Reds victory.

After the Cardinals had posted five runs in the ninth inning, the Reds turned to their closer Francisco Cordero to close the door.  Cordero hit Cardinals star Albert Pujols on the hand with a high inside fastball with one out.  It was likely unintentional considering Pujols represented the tying run with Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman coming to the plate.

Cordero eventually struck out Berkman to end the game and then promptly started screaming and pointing into the Cardinals dugout

According to Cordero, after the closer had hit Pujols, current Cardinals back-up catcher Gerald Laird was yelling out to the pitcher for hitting the club's star.  So when Cordero retired Berkman, he promptly began yelling back.

The entire incident was absolutely ridiculous.

Shame on Gerald Laird for yelling nasty things out onto the field.  It is right to stick up for your players, but not when it is obvious that Cordero was not intentionally throwing at Pujols.

But what is Cordero doing yelling and pointing into the dugout?  What is the point?  Cordero won the game and got the best of the Cardinals on the score board.  Instead of handling the situation with class and ignoring Laird, whom nobody saw, he made a scene out of something that could have gone completely ignored.

The Reds are good.  They are really good, lets at least acknowledge that.  But between Cueto's kicking, Brandon Phillips and his big mouth, and now Cordero's enormous temper, it makes it very difficult to respect them.

Yes the Cardinals lost this series and the Reds clearly were superior this weekend.

But this rivalry is far from over.

  2. Yes...classy yelling out like that during the game and having the ump have to tell you to stop. I think both were at fault. Laird was an idiot and so was Cordero, take the wool out of your eyes and see it how it was and not how you wanted it to be.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Hahahahah Awww poor Cards fans! There is absolutely no reason Cordero hits Pujols on purpose in that situation, are you kidding me? Why would Gerald Laird (by the way who is Gerald Laird??) feel the need to yell at Cordero like an idiot? If he thinks that the Reds would honestly hit Pujols on purpose on an 0-2 pitch in that situation he is truly stupid... Speaking of stupid, yes I'm sure the Cards fans should all be smiling after such a glorious series highlighted by stellar play from their best player/pitcher... Obviously the Reds are inferior in all aspects of the game and Tony La Russa and his knowledgeable staff will certainly expose them in the future, after cleverly biding his time for the last season and a half...

  4. "It was likely unintentional considering Pujols represented the tying run with Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman coming to the plate."

And then, "You can understand why Laird and the Cardinals bench was upset about Pujols getting hit".

Nothing like contradicting yourself in 4 paragraphs. No surprise you don't mention Molina and Carpenter childishness. The only thing more Little League than this "article" is the Cardinals' defense and bullpen.

  5. wow, whoever wrote this is oblivious to the fact that LAIRD started the shouting - I guess it is ok for Laird to shout (and totaly classy...lol) but not for Cordero to defend himself. I am not saying either is good, but a real baseball fan (not just cardinals fan) would know that inspite of the altercation, the reds are a great team, (as are the redbirds) and deserve the respect of the cardinals and their fans, and believe the reds earned it in high fasion today!!

  6. It's totally okay for you all to end a guys career (LaRue) with your cheap weak girlie kicks, and it's okay for you to put scars on Chris Carpenter's back. Oh and I tell you what Reds fans, how about selling more than 24K tix to a home game vs a team you supposedly hate. You can bet Busch gets that many on a weekday afternoon and will be sold out when you come here in June...so do us all a favor, talk to us when you win a championship!

  9. Thanks Robert for signing your name, unlike many of these Reds fans.

Also, I mention that the Reds are good. Clear as day in the article.

Has anybody ever timed how long it takes Brandon Phillips to get into the batter's box? Just saying...

Good series Reds. You won this bout

  16. First off the Cincinnati Reds are the first PROFESSIONAL Baseball team ever!
We are the epitome of class. Being "classless" is lying about taking steroids and mocking the records of baseball. i.e. McGuire.

Second, the Reds swept the Cardinals the old fashioned way, with good pitching, stellar defense and timely hitting. Cordero was not trying to intenionally hit Pujols, the player you refuse to sign. Why would he do that? If you have a problem with our players handle it the "baseball" way. Don't whine from the dugout, trying to distract our closer.

And for LaRussa, he is no genius. There have been many a time in the past that even Cardinals fans have questioned his judgement. How long has he been manager? and how many times have the Cardinals been in the playoffs the past 15 years? how many championship do you have? Please don't try to discredit the Reds, we are building a winner here in Cincinnati. GO BIG REDS!

  17. "Has anybody ever timed how long it takes Brandon Phillips to get into the batter's box? "

About as long as it takes Lance "Pass the Fudge" Berkman to track down a fly ball to the warning track.

  18. This might be the funniest blog I've read about this game. J Rudd is a really good blogger. Not much of a journalist.

How crappy of an indictment on Cordero is it that when someone yells at him, he should not say anything back?

I used to kind of like the Cardinals. I thought Larussa was a jerk, but at least liked most of the players. Now that has changed.

BTW 3 years of hitting .220 ended Jason Larues career, not his PTSD or whatever he said he had after he got kicked by Cueto.

If there is any amount of classlessness in this ordeal, it is shared by both teams.

  19. It's pretty sad that Cincy b!tches get on here and talk sh!t, it's hilarious...just like that type of club; the only reason at all this so called rivalry is being aired that way is b/c the Reds...awwww...were feeling left out during Sportcenter and Baseball Tonight...awwww...poor things...and they wanted some attention. I still hope your teams rented school bus can make here this June...you all do know where St. Louis is don't you? We have something called class over here...come on over, we'll take you to Ted Drews, then to the Arch, hell I'll even buy you a nice cold Bud, I'll even pay for your ticket to the ballgame...BUT don't cry like a b!tch when your team has to hop back on their school bus in second place hopin' for a wild card spot. 20. Luke,

Whether or not LaRue was close to the end of his career or not. It was not supposed to be decided by a cheap shot kick to the head. Sorry there's nothing you can say that will change that the way Cueto acted was bush.

  22. And by the way for those that slam us Cardinals fans for whining.. if you could see half of the twitter messages I get from Reds fans just because I used #stlcards as a hashtag would make you sick to be a true Reds fan. There are a ton of your co-horts that are filling my twitter feed with filth and personal attacks, has nothing to do with baseball. So this isn't whining this is me saying it like it is.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Well then... good luck to the Cards. They did keep their emotions in check for 25 outs of the game. That does show a considerable amount of self discipline. Good job redbirds! Anyway it is a shame about Jason LaRue. No rational human wishes injury upon another. Then again Cueto was pinned against the wall, and although kicking in spiked shoes might not have been the ideal reaction, he was nonetheless defending himself. Lets not forget it was Carpenter who exploded in to physical outburst after a verbal exchange with Baker, which refueled the scrum and violence that got LaRue concussed. However, best wishes to the Cards in their twilight years. Stay classy.

    ReplyDelete
  24. "What is the point?" "Classless"? I don't usually get into posts like this, but the whole story reeks of a bunch of whiny b*tches from St Louis who don't know how to handle being swept by a clearly superior team. Cordero didn't start the trash talking and he didn't hit Poo-holes on purpose. Go home with your tail between your legs and be done with it. Instead, your backup catcher and pitching coach are talking trash after being beat... sounds pretty classy to me. The Cards are and have been a classless act for the past few years. Ask around MLB...the Reds aren't the punks, the Cards are.

    ReplyDelete
  25. From a true Reds AND baseball fan:
Attendence Topic: Card fans are some of the best in baseball and certainly outdraw the Reds every year. Reds had 30+k Friday night and over 40k yesterday, weather held down the crowd today, plain and simple. (Cards probably would have drawn more)
Classless?: FACT - the Reds do not have this problem with any other team, I do not see the Cards other than highlights, but did see the Carpenter / Molina attitude expose itself a couple of weeks ago (I think against the Braves) and it was totally not warranted. I just think the rivalry has grown so much that everything is amplified! B Phillips is a great guy who always smiles, Cordero has struggled with control for two years and admittedely the Reds have been inferior to the Cards up until last year and they still beat us pretty good then. They have been like our big brother who beats us up, now we may be passing them....gets everyone pissed off if you are on the wrong end.
GREAT Rivalry, thats all! We are not Classless, we are inexperienced and it shows at times....we ARE a good YOUNG team and if we are healthy, we should be in it for the long haul for a long time. Go Reds!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think Pujols leaves after this season. Like Rolen during his St. Louis days, he seems to be one of the few on the St. Louis ball club with any class. What is it with Cardinals' .200 hitting catchers whining and crying while the big boys just play the game?

    ReplyDelete
  27. The post is laughable and juvenile. Don't know what the commenters on either side really get out of name-calling. The proof of the pudding is played out on the field, not in fans' commentary. On the field, it does appear that the torch is being passed, albeit begrudgingly. Then again, it wouldn't be a sport worth watching if the has-beens gave it up easily for the wanna-be's. This season's still young, but the facts are these: (1) the Reds upended the Cards last year, and (2) the Reds definitely look better in all phases this year.

    ReplyDelete
  28. this article seems very unbiased. well done.

why is your back-up catcher yelling at our players? has he even had an at bat in this series?

no pitcher would ever hit the tying run intentionally in the bottom of the ninth, obviously accidental, maybe thats why Pujols wasn't the one yelling at Cordero?

And honestly, I don't think this club has any "off the field" issues. Compared to the Bengals these guys are friggin angels. Cueto kicked Jason LaRue in the head when there were 40 people in a brawl? okay, dumb but a lot of players in the league would have done the same. and BPhillips isn't the first person to voice is opinion of how much he dislikes a rival.

    grow up.

your reign of NL Central top dog is over, and Pujols knows it too. thats why he's keepin his mouth shut and headin out next season.

besides, the NL Central is one of the weaker divisions anyway.

  33. Both teams are to blame and to be honest I saw little worth celebrating in the Reds win. Chapman giving up four walks and letting the Cards creep back into it frustrates me more than a little shouting. Truth be told both teams are guilty of juvenile antics and it needs to stop. It used to be a safe bet to take your family to a Reds/Cards game, now I worry I'll have to avoid going to them like the Cubs plague.

And all these arguments over attendance records and rings and trophies are bullshit. None of it matters. Its great to look back on both teams histories is great and all but it matters little in determining where they are headed.

  39. MR. Rudd,

"Classless" is watching your team get swept and complaining about a non-event.

If you were a true baseball fan you would lamenting over your ineffective bullpen. Or showing concern over your aging statue of a right fielder. Or begging ownership to re-sign the only class act on the team. Or asking the coaching staff to stress to the infielders to get down and in front of the ball and knock it down. Or ask for Ryan Franklin to tell you what is really wrong with him. Or....oh, nevermind.

    Quit whining.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The Reds are 12th out of 16 teams in the NL in paid attendance. Using the rain as an excuse is just lame. The Reds drew less than 46K for a 3 game series against the D-backs. Pathetic support for a "great team". Show up and support your team. The Cardinals put up 39K+ last season for home games AFTER being eliminated from the playoff chase.

    ReplyDelete
  41. "Class" is showing up whether the team wins or not and showing faith in the ownership that the group will do what they believe is in the best interest of the team. Re-signing Pujols at whatever cost is not necessarily a "best interest" item. The Cardinals are at a much later stage in the economic player cycle than the Reds are, and that's what happens when you have a few superstar players for a long time.

The Reds might be in that position in 3-4 years, so keep that in mind when that time comes and the bills are due. When the Reds have to start paying Votto big money and have tough decisions on guys like BP, maybe you'll understand that.

    ReplyDelete
  42. A few stats for the Reds bandwagoning fans...all info was just retrieved from www.mlb.com
    Baseball History
Postseason games played Reds 83 Cardinals 187
Postseason series record Reds 11-8 Cardinals 22-13
WS Rings Reds 5 Cardinals 10
Postseason games played since 1990 Reds 10 Cardinals 74

Now you get on here and talk shit like it's part of your long history growing up watching your team win and so on but just like Kyle said...certainly have been quiet for the past few decades, now go back and read my first quote. Just in case for those of you who may not know what bandwagon(ing) is, is when your team is down you talk how shitty they are when they are playing OK you're puttin' 'em on top of the world. Just check onceself. REDS??????hahahahlololol

    ReplyDelete
  43. The brawl was instigated by Molina stepping into BP's face? So I guess that the Earth is flat, too? There was no reason for BP to tap anything belonging to Yadi. Heck, he had no right to violate Yadi's personal space. By your logic, I can push somebody, they can get in my face, a brawl can ensue, and it is the other person's fault. Logic like that just screams aloud "I'm a Phoenix".

    ReplyDelete
  44. To argue that no pitcher would ever intentionally hit a batter who represents the tying run is simply ridiculous. No law or principle in nature dictates that human beings must act logically all the time. Cordero isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and he didn't exactly show a lot of concern about hitting Pujols. A lot of closers in baseball are simply cocky, and it's possible that he was confident in his ability to get the next batter out.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Schmitty, I came here to read what the cardinal fans had to say about TODAY's game and THIS weekend's series.

Instead I am reading about LAST years brawl, an incident AFTER the game was over, Cardinal's HISTORY and ATTENDANCE?!?!

Don't you guys have anything to say about the PRESENT state of your club?

    ReplyDelete
  46. The notion of passing the torch is nonsense. The division is up for grabs each and every year, so it's not like one team has a huge talent/economic advantage that allows it to dominate for a sustained period of time. The Cubs are a year away from dropping a significant amount of salary, and they are 2 years away from dropping another huge chunk. The Astros could make a huge move in another year under new ownership and be a completely different team by then. If Pujols/Carpenter leave, then the Cardinals could free up $30M in payroll to spend next offseason. Even if the Reds can keep their core players together, it's not like the other teams remain in some sort of suspended state.

  48. If anything, I think that the Reds fans should be a bit concerned that they aren't leading the division by 3 or 4 games by now. With the Brewers struggling and the Cardinals having so many injury issues, now is the time to really put the peddle down. If they aren't in complete command by the middle of June, then that leaves the door open for other teams to have hope.

When the Brewers get healthy, I think that they match up really well against Cincy, especially if Hart starts hitting. The Cardinals don't match up quite as well this year, but that could change as a function of waivers/trades. I don't think that the Pirates can stay in it for the long haul, but they can certainly help keep the race close by playing spoiler. A competitive team in Pittsburgh can prevent the division from being won by a 94-95 game winner, and division races get ugly when they are won by a team that only gets to 85 or 86. Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Tracey Jones - Most of the Cardinal bloggers have already covered most of what we could say here. The biggest problem the Cardinals have is the cascade effect caused by the David Freese injury. You try and remove a guy hitting .356 and playing solid defense at 3B from a lineup and see what happens.

The Cardinals are stuck with guys playing out-of-position, and they always have 2 bench/utility players starting due to Schumaker being injured. That leaves them with a depleted bench, and it gives them matchup problems all the time, because a lot of their subs are left-handed (Jon Jay, Daniel Descalso, Mark Hamilton), or they don't have experience at all the infield positions (Allen Craig, Tyler Greene). To make matters worse, they don't have Brian Tallet, so they only have one lefty in the pen right now.

Technically speaking, they don't have a long relief guy, either. Ryan Franklin is their only option in that role, and he's pretty much fried right now. Some of the bullpen issues are the result of the Wainwright injury. Moving McClellan to the rotation caused a shift in the pen, so they lost their most reliable reliever. They've basically made it that far by patching things together. In a way, it's amazing that they are where they are now, even with something like 9 blown saves.

    We know the feeling.

We had two starters out for most of the year(Cueto and Bailey). Arroyo has had mono and is weaker from it. Chapman is Franklin-esque. We lost Rolen AND his backup went on the DL at the same time. We played Cairo at 3rd until he got hurt. We played our SS(Janish) at 3rd and played a statue(Reneria) at ss. Then Janish got hurt. We're playing with one catcher since Hannigan got hit by a pitch on the wrist(not intentional!).

    Things are tough all over.

If things were normal here we might have that 5 game lead the anon @635p spoke of!

  58. Attendance- St. Louis has a long winning tradition and thus a loyal fan base that is more likely to pay for tickets. The Reds have sucked for at least a decade and only last year began winning, it will take time to build up a fan base like in St. Louis again.

BP said dumb stuff b/c he was giving the Cards bulletin board material otherwise there's nothing wrong with saying you hate the guys who consistently kick the crap out of the entire division. BP always taps the catcher's equipment as do other batters as a friendly gesture. Molina turned it into a bigger incident, Carpenter and company (includes Reds guys) expanded it, and then Cueto overreacted in self-defense and turned a fairly entertaining incident into a tragedy for LaRue who has been a great catcher in his career for both the Reds and the Cards.

When do you ever see someone get yelled at by the opposing team and not yell back. Honestly I'm surprised Cordero held off till the end of the game. As long as no one goes Milton Bradley there's nothing wrong with some emotions in game as long as it doesn't effect performance.

A lot of MLB doesn't like LaRussa and the Cards, in part b/c they are good and in part b/c the competitive personalities of some of their players rubs opponents the wrong way, just like BP and some of his antics. Rolen left b/c of LaRussa. Baker and LaRussa had some run ins while Baker was in Chicago.

Calling another team classless is just a way to feel good about losing. St. Louis had steroid issues and the Reds had Pete Rose. In the recent spats between the two I don't think there has been any serious classlessness accept by Jim Edmonds for attacking the Reds medical staff. An athlete ran his mouth about a rival. A hot tempered member of the rival made it bigger than it needed to be.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Edmonds played for the Brewers, Cardinals, Reds, and Cubs. Apparently, the Reds organization was his least favorite.

  60. This is really a pathetic article. You expect the Reds to show more class and point out that Cordero should have accepted the win without the trash talk. But that's exactly what came from the Cardinal's bench to start it all. In a perfect world for St. Louis fans, they can "whine" and not get anything thrown back at them. But the Reds show once again that they won't back down. Why don't the Cardinals realize that whether it's winning the game or beating the piss out of them, the Reds are coming out on top. This whole article is just wishing the Reds would quietly put up with the St Louis "whining". The world isn't perfect. The Reds don't back down.

    CARPing: present participle of carp
Verb: Complain or find fault continually, typically about trivial matters.

    How appropriate!

Apparently, Chris CARPenter said he found the mound to be in poor condition.

Umm...Chris, it was raining the entire game. They did not swap out the mound after every half inning, did they? Did Aroldis whine about the mound? Last year Chris said the balls were not rubbed properly. Really?

Also Carp complained of the lingering smoke AFTER he gave up a home run. I was there. It "lingered" for about 1 minute. Here some advice...don't give up the homerun.

These are examples of why the Cards have the reputation that they do.

  66. so the reds organization is classless for cordero responding to laird's CLASSLESSNESS of yellin DURING the game? atleast cordero was smart enough to wait until after the reds SWEPT THE CARDINALS to yell at the bench.

  67. NO CLASS CARDS Starts at the top with Larussa! You got swept get over it. There's a new leader in the division.

  68. Alright everyone, if Cordero doesn't yell into the dugout in front of everybody, would anybody even know that Laird was yelling things to Cordero during the game? The answer is definitely no. So who caused this raucous again?

Like I said in the article, the Reds are good and congrats on winning the series. Remember, please keep things clean. Thanks for reading.

  69. Laird shouldn't of said a thing, Cordero shouldn't of either, I get that. It's baseball, who cares!

I'm more disappointed with was Cueto talking crap at the end.

Rudd, like you said in the article, the reds are classless. which is false. the cardinals start it and you say the reds are classless? that doesn't make sense. please learn how to write, how to think, and how to make decisions. how many chromosomes do you have?

  71. Classlessness-whatever! As if Carpenter and Molina are the kings of class. At least Cordero didn't shove or throw punches like Mr. Molina because he was pouting about Brandon Phillips comments. Pujols is the only Cardinal that's classy. Too bad it was him that was ACCIDENTALLY hit.

  72. J. Rudd@839p: either you are saying idiotic things on purpose(ala radio shock jocks) to create buzz on your blog or you are an idiot.

nothing in your last post makes any sense and isn't worth any further comment.

i had hoped i stumbled upon decent blog but now i realize i haven't.

    good bye

  74. Edmonds played for the Brewers, Cardinals, Reds, and Cubs. Apparently, the Reds organization was his least favorite.

Edmonds will always be known for great baseball, never for his brains.

  75. hahahaha bench warmers yelling....classic. GO REDS!

  76. J. Rudd, myself being from St. Louis, I can honestly say that you need to edit this article. Poorly written with an obvious bias. You are simply reinforcing everyone's views that we are a bunch of "cry babies." With that being said, both sides were at fault today but the Cardinals definitely instigated the jawing. Rudd, it is 100% alright to give your subjective view on things, however be somewhat rational when you write.

  77. copied from a actual journalist:

"The game ended with players from both teams yelling unpleasantries at each other, The incident had been ignited earlier by Cardinals back-up catcher Gerald Laird who got quite nasty in his vocal claims that Cordero had intentionally hit Pujols.

“Gerald Laird just went off …the whole inning he was cussing, yelling, saying stuff you you’re not supposed to say to nobody,” Cincinnati Reds catcher Ramon Hernandez said of the Cardinals’ back-up catcher. “The umpire even turned around and told him to be quiet, that that was enough.”

Laird kept it up and as the game ended he was joined in his dugout chorus by Cards pitching coach Dave Duncan and some other players.

In response, Cordero and fellow pitcher Edinson Volquez yelled back from the field.

“Of all the guys they have, all the great hitters, the great players, Gerald Laird doesn’t even play and he’s the one yelling …and pointing at me? said Cordero, who was surprised at the outburst from Laird with whom he had been teammates in Texas.

“Like I told him, that’s not how I play. I don’t try to hit guys…. And why would I want to hit Pujols? Then I’ve got to face Holliday next. He’s one of the best hitters in the National League. And Lance Berkman is another great hitter after that. They can take the lead in one swing.”

Pujols, for his part, said he knew Cordero didn’t try to hit him."

  80. Well it's 8:10AM here in the Lou and I'm still kind of curious as to why an articale that is posted in St. Louis (on the web) has so many damn Cincy Reds fans on here...I have come to the conclusion that everyone got on here JUST to talk sh!t. I mean come on seriously, I've stated nothing but facts that were looked up, just like a professor or teacher or anyone doing a survey or anyone showing a trend, all I was showing is that more times than none, and probably has a good chance this year of happening again, is that the Reds will fall out of it, if not, then cool, but more than likely, we will not here from most of you again after post season starts...GOOD LUCK

  81. "Speaking of that rivalry, why do the Cardinals get a pass when they act like jerks? Reds closer Francisco Cordero is actually a nice and calm guy, so when he started screaming at the St. Louis bench after he closed out Cincinnati’s sweep, it was likely someone said or did something to derserve it. In fact, they do that a lot. They're easily offended and if they don't get the “respect” they feel they deserve, they say something about it. But whenever the tables get turned, they act like children. The act has gotten old."

  82. "cheap weak girlie kicks" ... didn't you also say it ended LaRue's career?!?!?!? are you a complete moron. That's not "cheap weak girlie kicks" Listen, you fool, when you come out of that dugout in a bench clearing brawl you assume the risk of getting hurt. I liked Larue and I'm sorry he got hurt but he assumed the risk. By the way, if an angry mob pinned you against a fence would you do everything possible to get away or would you just soil your pants.. Cardinals are a bunch of cry babies.. I was at Saturdays game and watched 3 cardinal fans have to be physically removed from the stands by the police. To date most every cardinal fan I've encountered is a complete idiot.. you and the writer of this article are no exception.

  83. anon@845p: it wasn't Cueto dumbass, it was Volquez. Oh, and watch this.

    Schmitty...you are...well...oh, nevermind....

  84. Those that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. How can you say the Reds did several terrible things without acknowledging what the Cardinals did too? I guess Yadier Molina's mouth running is OK.

  86. Pete Rose didn't show class when he bet on baseball, so whoever dissed McGwire forgot about gambling on baseball. Brandon Phillips didn't show class when he publicly insulted the Cardinals. Johnny Cueto unnecessarily kicked LaRue and Carpenter in the brawl, what an idiot. Marty Brennaman decided to verablly attack Carpenter and pitching coach dave duncan. Jack Buck had 10x more class than that. He wrote an inspirational 9/11 poem, marty brennaman says whatever the hell he feels like even if it's classless. Cordero had to point his finger in the Cards' dugout. Regardless of who is at fault for that argument, Cordero was the bad guy for making a scene on TV. Yes, the Cardinals organization has more class than the Reds..it helps explain the gap between the world,nl and nl central titles. 10 world titles >5 world titles.. 17 pennants>9 pennants.. 8 central titles > 2 central titles.. Reds fans you have ground to make up before you proclaim "how much classier and better the Reds are."
