On Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals had a press conference to announce the signing of Adam Wainwright to a five-year, $97.5 million contract extension that will make him a Cardinal through the end of 2018.
Wainwright was very happy and at a loss for words when talking about signing the new and while thanking the organization, owner Bill Dewitt Jr. and the people of St. Louis.
You can check out Wainwright's comments in the video below.
The comment that will hit home the most for Cardinals fans who are still getting over the loss of Albert Pujols a year ago came when Wainwright said the following:
Wainwright, who is 31 years old, will be looking to build on the 14-13 season he compiled in 2012, his first after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
The Cardinals are paying Wainwright to be the 20-game winner he was before the surgery and if the risk works in the Cardinals' favor, they will have found themselves a pretty nice bargain.

"I feel like my heart is in St. Louis. I love it there. I love driving to the field, seeing the arch, driving up and seeing Busch Stadium. It's a treat to work there every day and is something that continues to catch me off-guard. It makes me feel like I am way too blessed, more than I deserve."
