Did I mention that Saint Louis (22-5, 11-2 A 10) is ranked 18th and 19th in the nation in different polls? Did I also mention that Saint Louis is ranked the highest they been ranked since 1994? Lastly, did I mention that the Billikens have gotten the winning streak up to double digits with 10 wins?
Saint Louis may be the one of the hottest teams in the nation. And, the team is firing on all cylinders, especially in the second half. The Hawks (15-11, 6-7 A 10) only trailed Saint Louis by 2 points at halftime Wednesday night.
The Billikens came out in the second half on a mission to show college basketball that they were not going to lose after finally cracking the top-25. Saint Louis came out in the second half on a 21-to-5 run and blew the game wide open. The Billikens controlled the glass by outrebounding Saint Joseph’s 13-to-6 during that stretch.
Actually, Saint Louis controlled the boards all game. The Billikens finished the night with a plus-14 rebounding margin. Dwayne Evans posted his first double-double at home this season. The junior scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. This is Evans’ third double-double this February.
Rob Loe and Mike McCall Jr. both finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
If you are like me when you look at the Billikens schedule; you can’t help but smile. Seeing win after win makes Saint Louis fans feel good. There are three games left to play in the Atlantic 10 conference and these are all games that the Billikens can win.
George Washington is next for Saint Louis and the Colonials are spiraling out of control. George Washington (12-14, 6-7 A 10) has lost five of their last seven games. The road may get harder next week when Saint Louis plays Xavier.
The Musketeers (16-11, 8-5 A 10) are 5-5 in its last 10 games. That isn’t a team that should scare Billikens’ fans. Obviously, nobody can look past a game on the road, especially the way college basketball has played out this season. Teams are dropping like flies and Saint Louis can benefit with another win over the weekend and into a top-15 ranking.
