Jeff Fisher on Steven Jackson trade talks: "Rumors are rumors"

There has been plenty of speculation around St. Louis and the NFL as the trade deadline approaches on Thursday whether the St. Louis Rams would trade franchise running back Steven Jackson to a contender in exchange for future draft compensation.  On Tuesday night, Jeff Fisher did his best to squash any of those rumors.

"The Steven Jackson rumors are rumors," Fisher said on Tuesday evening. "He’s our running back."

The trade talks surrounding Jackson have been so prominent because of the emergence of rookie seventh round draft pick Daryl Richardson.

Richardson has carried the ball 62 times this for 335 yards, good for a 5.4 yard per carry average.  Meanwhile Jackson has carried it 108 times for 403 yards which is just a 3.7 yard per carry average.  Jackson does have one rushing touchdown this season.

Adam Schefter of ESPN.com had previously reported that teams had been calling the Rams regarding Jackson's availability.  Fisher told reporters on Tuesday that the rumor simply was not true.

"We’re not calling around, nor are we getting calls for that matter. Put that to rest."
