ESPN proves just how sad NHL lockout truly is

The lockout currently taking place in the NHL truly is a sad state of affairs for hockey lovers across the United States and particularly in St. Louis.  Fans are fed up everywhere as NHL stars continue to find work overseas while the NHL owners and NHLPA bicker with no agreement anywhere in sight.

Nobody will ever accuse ESPN of having "quality" hockey coverage, even when the NHL is operating normally.  But their current NHL homepage truly highlights just how sad the state of hockey and the lockout truly is.

On Sunday evening, ESPN's NHL homepage featured a "NHL Week 3" simulation, with results hypothetically produced by EA Sports NHL '13 video game with Steve Levy commentating on the animated, fictional action.  You can check out the article here.

Featuring the product of an important advertiser certainly is understandable.  The "World Wide Leader in Sports" certainly has the right to earn revenue and promote their sponsors.

But to have a simulated video game as the lead story speaks volumes.  The NHL should be embarrassed.
