Gary Pinkel just wants to win

Those use to watching Mizzou play expect a high flying offense, charged with a prolific aerial attack.  So far in 2012, fans have not seen that out of Mizzou.

On Saturday, Mizzou was able to claw out a tough 21-16 victory against a very good Central Florida team.  It was an ugly win for Mizzou, who still looks out of sync on offense as quarterback James Franklin continues to try and find his groove.

For head coach Gary Pinkel, none of it matters.  The coach just wants to win football games.

"I don't care how it looked," Pinkel said. "It's a great win. ... I'm not interested in looking pretty. I want to flat win."

Thanks to a solid second half defensive effort and an explosive punt return from running back Marcus Murphey, the Tigers were able to just that.  They won, but barely.

But Pinkel does not care at this point.  When you are in the ultra tough SEC and are asked to play a very inconvenient road game against a quality opponent, winning is the only thing that matters.

Good for Pinkel and the Tigers.  Making excuses would be just silly at this point.  Nothing matters but victories and Mizzou escaped with one on Saturday.

Now the Tigers must prepare for Vanderbilt, who they host next Saturday at home at Faurot Field.

The game with Vandy is another situation where Pinkel and the Tigers must come through.  It is a game must win and it will not matter who pretty it looks.
