Rick Ankiel is looking for a new home. Should the Cardinals bring him back to help out in the outfield? - (Photo credit: Wikipedia) |
Ankiel was designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals last week after hitting just .228 with five home runs this season.
It is rumored that Ankiel already has a suitor. The New York Yankees may look to add Ankiel now that he is available.
But with Ankiel available, should the Cardinals look to bring him back and get involved?
While picking up Ankiel would stink of a "low hanging fruit move" by general manager John Mozeliak, it may have merit considering the struggles of Cardinals center fielder Jon Jay. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny admitted to the team's official website that Jay is struggling pretty bad.
The only other options in center field at this point are Skip Schumaker and Carlos Beltran. But Schumaker looks like he will get most of the at bats at second base and it is unclear whether Beltran's legs are healthy enough to play center field regularly if Jay continues to scuffle.
So should the Cardinals look to bring back Ankiel as insurance and support in the outfield while Jay tries to find his swing? Vote now and leave your comments below!
