Thanks to a long home run from Matt Holliday and an outstanding performance from starting pitcher Kyle Lohse, the Cardinals beat the Cubs 4-1 on Friday night at Busch Stadium.
Lohse tossed seven solid innings, allowing just one earned run on seven hits and one walk while striking out four to pick up his tenth win of the season.
Meanwhile Holliday carried the offense with a 469 foot home run in the third inning, the longest in new Busch Stadium's history. Holliday finished the night with two hits and has raised his average to .319 on the season.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early first inning lead thanks to RBI's by Carlos Beltran, Yadier Molina, and Lance Bermkman in the first inning and never looked back.
Cardinals closer Jason Motte pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up his 21st save of the season to wrap up the victory.
