The Cardinals offense exploded for 12 runs in the seventh inning off of three Cubs relievers without hitting a single home run. Rather than employing the long ball, the Cardinals used a bevy of doubles to pepper the Cubs with a huge inning.
The Cardinals used ten hits and three walks to push across their 12 runs. Eight of the hits were for extra bases, including seven doubles in the inning.
Allen Craig, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the inning, double twice in two at bats in the seventh while Skip Schumaker had a double and a triple in the hitting brigade.
Meanwhile, Westbrook was steady as a rock on the, pounding the strike zone with his patented sinker. Westbrook allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out five to even his record at 8-8 on the season.
Westbrook kept the Cardinals in it for seven innings and the offense led the hammer as the Cardinals now have taken the first two games of series against the Cubs.
