The St. Louis Rams drafted tight end Lance Kendricks out of Wisconsin in the second round of last year's NFL Draft hoping to find a tight end capable of of blocking for Steven Jackson and giving quarterback Sam Bradford a big target over the middle of the field.

During last year's pre-season, it looked as though the Rams had found a diamond in the rough.  Kendricks was awesome when the games did not count.  But once the regular season began, Kendricks started dropping footballs and eventually was virtually phased out of the offense almost completely.

Kendricks now says that he is working on improving his focus.
"The main thing I saw was a lot of times when I was tired was when I made my most mistakes. Just being able to stay focused and fight through that and compete and go out there and just perform when I am tired was my main thing I wanted to do better. When you get tired, you can forget things and I would have a mental error here or there so I think most of it just came from fatigue."
Losing focus is unacceptable for any professional athlete who gets paid big bucks to play a game.  But you can hardly blame Kendricks for losing focus.   The Rams were atrocious.

It was easy for Kendricks to lose focus.  The Rams were getting blasted in most games, half the balls thrown this way bounced in front of his feet, and when his number was called his quarterback ended up on his back.

If the Rams are expecting for an improved Sam Bradford this season, they will need an improved Lance Kendricks as well.  The Rams need to build this team from the middle out and Kendricks needs to be the anchor in the middle of the field that Bradford can turn to and trust.
