With new head coach Jeff Fisher in charge, the cornerback position has been addressed and Fisher told dnj.com that he thinks that it could be a strength of the Rams team in 2012.
“It was difficult last year because of the injuries. But now it’s going to be a strength for us because of Cortland, Janoris, Trumaine and the rest of the guys. It’s going to be very, very competitive.”
The Rams brought in Cortland Finnegan, whom Fisher coached during his time in Tennessee, to solidify the secondary and bring a bit of toughness to a Rams defense that was second to last in the league in rushing yards allowed.
The Rams addressed the cornerback position even further in this past spring's NFL Draft when they took Janoris Jenkins in the second round and Trumaine Johnson in the third round.
The Rams certainly have focused on improving their pass coverage and are right to do so. Having guys capable of covering elite NFL receivers will only help the Rams talented defensive line combo of Chris Long and Robert Quinn get to the quarterback more often.
