Former St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa has not been gone very long, but he will be remembered on May 11th when the St. Louis Cardinals host the Atlanta Braves.

Various sources, including Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Cardinals official radio station KMOX, let it be known that the organization and La Russa have agreed to have his number ten jersey retired prior to the first pitch on May 11th.

La Russa, a cinch for the Hall of Fame, will be the thirteenth number retired by the St. Louis Cardinals, who have won eleven World Series championships, the second most in Major League Baseball history.

La Russa will be the fourth manager to have his jersey retired, the others being Whitey Herzog, Red Schoendienst, and Ken Boyer.

La Russa ranks third all-time among all managers in Major League history in wins and is the franchise leader with 1,408 regular season victories.

The manager led the Cardinals to the playoffs in nine of his 16 seasons, earning three World Series appearances, winning two in 2006 and 2011.

May 11th will be a special day for La Russa and Cardinals fans as the number ten jersey joins the thirteen others in Busch Stadium that have been retired by one of the classiest organizations in Major League Baseball.
