Fresh off of his heroic and improbably post-season miracle and World Series MVP, St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese is seeing his popularity rise to an all-time high.
Since helping the Cardinals win their eleventh World Series Championship, Freese has been seen hanging with Justin Bieber on Jay Leno's Tonight Show and presented an award with ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews at the Country Music Awards.
But the biggest evidence of Freese's rise in popularity would be the implosion of David Freese jerseys coming off the racks at retailers.
According to a Forbes.com report and Major League Baseball, David Freese jerseys are the 20th most popular jersey sold in all of MLB.
Freese is the only Cardinals player that ranked in the top 20 of Majestic official jersey sales during the calendar year of 2011.
Having his jersey among the 20 most popular in MLB is quite an accomplishment for a player in just his third full MLB season and is taking home just $508,000 in salary in 2012.
Cardinals fans can only hope their support for Freese by buying his jersey translates into a healthy season on the field. The often injured Freese has a career .300 batting average, but has yet to appear in more than 97 games in a single season at the Major League level.
Either way, Freese is obviously already a legend in Cardinal Nation and his jersey sales reflect it.
I tossed the pujols jersey in the trash so the next logical choice was Freese. He is a home town hero in St. Louis. Im sure most Cards fans did the same.
