The St. Louis Cardinals kicked off their first home stand of the season with a deflating 9-5 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon in front of a packed house at Busch Stadium.  Unfortunately, the home opener was a big disappointment.

Luckily for the Cardinals, their spirits should quickly be lifted on Saturday as they receive their 2011 World Series Championship rings before they square off against the Cubs again on Saturday.

The rings will be presented to the Cardinals before Saturday's game and the look of the rings is much of what you would expect for World Champions.

There is the tradition of the Cardinals eleven World Series Championships remembered with each season tattooed around the band.  There is the familiar bird on the bat on the front of the ring, made of rubies.  There are the pillars of Busch Stadium on one side.  And of course, there are plenty of diamonds, 103 of them to be exact.

But there is one unusual characteristic on this ring that you may not expect and that is not usually featured on Championship hardware.  The "Rally Squirrel" makes an appearance on the jewelry.

The "Rally Squirrel" became a fan symbol throughout the Cardinals 2011 Championship Run and is remembered with a very small squirrel on the side of the ring, scampering as it did across the Busch Stadium field in the middle of a Skip Schumaker at bat.  The squirrel is small, but it is there for the Cardinals players who helped contribute to that magical run to remember forever.

Take a look at the rings for yourself.  All shots of the ring are courtesy of the St. Louis Cardinals.

  1. No opinion on the ring, that's for the Cardinals to decide about. I am curious what they spent on each.

  2. I love them! The Cardinal's origination purchases the wrings for EVERYONE involved with the team. When I toured the stadium a few years, my tour guide was given a ring after the 2006 win. She said that everyone from the janitors to the pro shop employees were given rings. I think that's awesome! I won back to back National Cheerleading championships and teammates who didn't get to compete were not allowed to purchase rings. In pro sports even the little people get the bling!

  3. Excellent! The Cardinals are a classy team and their ring encompasses their season and humor in putting the squirrel on their ring!
