La Russa always had a bit of a reputation as being a work-a-holic. Some felt that he was nearly obsessed with the game, studying its intricacies, and experimenting with new theories.
At the time La Russa assured everybody that he was done managing baseball, but that he could see himself involved with baseball going forward in some capacity or another.
And if hedge-fund billionaire Steve Cohen is successful in his bid to purchase the Los Angeles Dodgers, La Russa may land his first office job soon.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today is reporting that if Cohen, who is reportedly the highest bidder for the Dodgers franchise, is able to purchase the team he will hire La Russa to a front office position.
It is good to hear that La Russa could be making a quick transition from the dugout to the owner's suite. La Russa is too smart, to charismatic, and too unique not to be involved with some organization in baseball, in whatever capacity.
Of course some dominoes would need to fall in line for La Russa to receive his first official front office job. But if Tony is involved in baseball, then baseball is in good shape.
