SLU survives, beats La Salle to advance in Atlantic 10 tournament

After watching the number one seed Temple Owls fall in the opening round of the Atlantic 10 tournament, many Saint Louis University Billikens fans worried their team could suffer the same fate.  The feel of more upsets was in the air.

Many feel, including Joe Lunardi of ESPN and his latest version of Bracketology, that SLU has safely secured a spot in the NCAA tournament.  But a loss to La Salle would cause a whole lot of anxiety among SLU fans.

Luckily, Rick Majerus had his bunch ready to play.  After carrying a 35-29 lead into half time, the Bills were able to hold on in the second half for a 78-71 victory to advance to the semifinals of the A10 tournament.

SLU was led offensively by Mike McCall Jr, who poured in 16 points while hitting three of his five attempts from behind the three point arc.

Point guard Kwamain Mitchell added 15 points and seven assists while forward Brian Conklin chipped in his customary 14 points while leading the Billikens to victory.

Saint Louis now has a 25-6 record on the season and a resume that has become even more difficult for the NCAA Tournament committee to overlook.  Majerus has led the Bills to nine wins in their last ten games and may be peaking at just the right time.
