Routines would change. Attitudes would change. And evidently, player personnel is drastically changing as well.
According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams will cut five veteran players on Tuesday, just before the NFL free agency period begins at 4 pm.
Among the casualties are corner back Ron Bartell, defensive end James Hall, defensive tackle Fred Robbins, defensive tackle Justin Bannan, and center Jason Brown.
The moves relieve the Rams of $18.8 million of cap space and as Mike Sando over at ESPN points out, it makes the Rams among the five youngest teams in the NFL, just one season after being one of the five oldest.
The move also may signal where the Rams may focus in the upcoming draft. Releasing two defensive tackles signals the Rams most certainly will need to fill holes in the middle of the defensive line and could choose so with their newly acquired sixth overall pick in the NFL draft.
Another option would be for Fisher to replace Robbins and Bannon in the middle of the defensive line with an old friend. The enigmatic Albert Haynesworth, whom Fisher coached during his best seasons in Tennessee, is looking for a job.
Rather than look for some explosive players via the draft, the Rams could also be aggressive in free agency with new found cap space. It would not be a surprise if the Rams targeted free agent wide receivers such as Vincent Jackson and Marques Colston to give quarterback Sam Bradford some weapons.
Change is certainly occurring at Rams Park.
It is change that is necessary if Fisher and his staff want to change the Rams record next season and beyond.
