The St. Louis Blues have rose to the top of the NHL standings with 97 points for many reasons.

Head coach Ken Hitchcock is easily the favorite for NHL coach of the year and his guiding hand is certainly one reason for the Blues success.

The Blues superb goal-tending from their dynamic duo of Jaroslav Halak and All-Star Brian Elliott has also been a big reason for the Blues success.

Then there is the Blues penalty killing unit, which has not allowed a goal in 47 consecutive short-handed opportunities, a streak that dates back to a February 14th loss to Columbus.

While Hitchcock and the Blues defense may be the story, the Blues will need T.J. Oshie to continue finding the back of the net and helping teammates do the same.

According the Elias Sports Bureau, the Blues have won all 16 games in which Oshie, who has 18 goals and 30 assists on the season, has tallied a point since January 1st.

As T.J. Oshie goes, the St. Louis Blues go.

If the Blues hope to capture a Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history and if the trend identified by the Elias Sports Bureau holds true, the Blues will need Oshie to continue scoring at a frenetic pace come playoff time.

Of course the Blues will need production from other players other than Oshie, but it is easy to see how valuable Oshie is to this team.

Suffice to say, with Halak and Elliott standing on their heads between the pipes in front of a penalty kill unit that is playing nearly flawless hockey, the Blues are in really good shape when Oshie tallies a point.
