Adron Chambers follows advice of legend, gets tighter pants

St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Adron Chambers made a name for himself in 2011.

A September call-up who had some clutch hits during the stretch run, Chambers found himself on the Cardinals playoff roster.  Chambers was there mainly for his speed and ability to play all three outfield positions.

This spring, Chambers is fighting for a spot on the big league club all over again.  His wheels may have earned him a World Series ring in 2011, but they are not guaranteeing him a spot in St. Louis in 2012.

So Chambers is doing everything he can to find an edge and position himself to make the club.

At the urging of Cardinals legend Willie McGee, Chambers decided to start wearing tighter fitting pants.  McGee had told Chambers that his baggier pair of pants made him look less aerodynamic.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny noticed that Chambers had made the change almost immediately.
"Willie told him that early in the day, and by the end of the day, he's already got leotards on.  That's respect."
Chambers appeared in 18 games for the Cardinals in 2011, making eight plate appearances while collecting three hits and four crucial RBI's.  In Memphis last season, Chambers hit .277 with ten home runs and 22 stolen bases.

It is good to see that young players like Chambers are listening to the likes of Willie McGee.

It is also good to hear the Chambers is willing to do anything it takes to make the team and get an edge, even if his pants are a bit too tight.
