Former Cardinals starter Edwin Jackson inks deal with Nationals

It took a lot longer than many expected, but former St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Edwin Jackson has found a new home for the 2012 season.

In search of a multi-year contract, Jackson and his agent Scott Boras settled for a one year contract with the Washington Nationals.  The contract is believed to be worth anywhere from $9 to $12 million for the 2012 season.

The 28 year old Jackson will be pitch for his seventh Major League organization when he takes the hill in Washington for the first time.

Jackson joins fellow Boras clients Jayson Werth, Stephen Strasburg, and Bryce Harper in the Washington D.C.

Some had thought Jackson was a prime candidate to join the New York Yankees rotation this off-season.  But the pitching strapped Yankees made a pair of moves in bringing over Michael Pineda from Seattle and Hideki Kuroda from the Los Angeles Dodgers, leaving little room for Jackson in New York.

Jackson was acquired by the Cardinals during the middle of the 2011 season as a key component in the infamous Colby Rasmus trade.

During his time in St. Louis, Jackson appeared in 13 games, making 12 starts.  Jackson posted a 5-2 record during the regular season with a 3.58 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 78 innings.  Jackson also started four games for the Cardinals during their magical post-season run, going 1-1 with a 5.60 ERA.
