Seven Teams May Want Ryan Theriot

Ryan Theriot never exactly captured the hearts and minds of St. Louis Cardinals fans during his one-year tenure with the 2011 World Champions, hitting .271 with bad defense as a second baseman forced to play shortstop.

But Theriot has apparently caught the attention of as many as seven Major League teams.

The Tampa Bay Rays have apparently become more interested of late, while the Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies and Houston Astros have also shown interest in the second baseman.

The Cardinals did not tender a contract to Theriot, who has been on the market for a month now.  Instead, they went with Rafael Furcal at shortstop and will likely go with Skip Schumaker or Daniel Descalso at second base.
