Poll: Who Should The St. Louis Rams Hire As Their Next Coach?

After finishing the 2011 NFL season with a 2-14 record after expectations were high after 2010's near playoff miss, the St. Louis Rams could be in search of a new head coach sooner rather than later.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com, the Rams will likely fire head coach Steve Spagnuolo and general manager Billy Devaney and create a new leadership team to support franchise quarterback Sam Bradford and company.

Rumors have swirled about who owner Stan Kroenke may look to fill the Rams head coaching position if he does indeed fire Spagnuolo like everyone already believes.  But who would you like to see the Rams hire as their new coach?

Here are a few of the names and who could be top candidates and that the Rams could look at, but there is no guarantee that any of these coaches would want to come to St. Louis.

Current offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels could be a candidate for the job, but it is highly unlikely the Rams would go in the directions, especially after watching the Rams put up the worst offense in the entire league, scoring just 12.1 points per game in 2011.  But McDaniels will be closely tied with leading wide receiver and free agent Brandon Lloyd, so the Rams could look to bring him back, although a coordinator role would seem to make more sense.

Jon Gruden is a name that grabs the headlines, but the former Super Bowl winning coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and current ESPN Monday Night Football analyst has been in the booth for some time now and has denied rumors that he is interested in coaching again anytime soon.

Jeff Fischer was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans practically forever before his drama with quarterback Vince Young ultimately caused his demise.  It was 16 seasons to be exact, and Fischer compiled a 142-120 record while leading the Titans to six playoff appearances.  Fischer could be a safe pick for the Rams.

Eric Mangini, a former Bill Belicheck deciple, just like McDaniels, could be an interesting candidate if the Rams were looking to take a risk.  Mangini, who is known for his three seasons with the New York Jets, last coached the Cleveland Browns for just two seasons and led the woeful Browns franchise to a 10-22 record.  If the Rams plan to retain McDaniels as an offensive coordinator, then bringing Mangini in as head coach could make sense since the two have worked together in the past.

Finally, there is Brian Billick.  Billick, known for his offensive mind, famously won a Super Bowl with a defensive dominant Baltimore Ravens team in 2000.  Billick has been an analyst with Fox for several season and has not coached since 2007.

So who would you like to be the new coach?  Vote for one of these names now or leave a comment regarding who you would like to see as the Rams next head coach.
