Mizzou Recovers From First Loss, Beats Iowa State 76-69

Many wondered how Frank Haith's Missouri Tigers would respond after getting thumped over the weekend on the road by Kansas State.

Coming off their first loss of the season, the Tigers had the unenviable task of travelling to Ames, Iowa to take on an underrated Iowa State Cyclones team.  Thanks to a balanced scoring attack and a dominating performance on the backboards, Mizzou escaped Iowa with a big time Big 12 conference play road victory and a 76-69 win.

Mizzou had their usual seven man rotation on the floor all night and six of those seven scored in double digits.  The only Tigers player to not record double digits in points was leading scorer Marcus Denmon, who scored just six points on the night.

Despite Denmon's lackluster performance, thanks in part to some outstanding Iowa State defense, Mizzou was able to prevail because Mizzou got huge performances from their two post players.

Senior forward Ricardo Ratliffe had just two points in the Kansas State loss, but on Wednesday night against Iowa State Ratliffe was assertive, scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds.

Reserve senior forward Steve Moore was stellar down low as well, scoring ten points on five of six shooting and grabbed a team high nine rebounds.

Senior guard Matt Pressey led the Tigers with 14 points while his brother Phil Pressey scored 12 points.  Senior guard Kim English scored ten points before leaving the game in the final minute with five fouls.

Denmon may have only scored six points on the night, but did contribute in other ways.  The sharp-shooter had seven assists and hit all four of his free throws down the stretch to seal the Tigers victory.

The win moves Mizzou's record to 15-1 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 Conference play.  Mizzou will host Texas at home on Saturday afternoon at Mizzou Arena.
