One of the first moves St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak made prior to the team's 2011 World Series Championship season was a curious move among those who enjoy, or hate, the Chicago Cubs rivalry.
Prior to last season the Cardinals signed Ryan Theriot to a one year contract to play shortstop and ultimately come off the bench as a pinch-hitter in the post-season.
Now, before the 2012 season, Mozeliak is dipping into the former Cubs player well again.
The organization has signed former Chicago Cubs catcher Koyie Hill to a minor league contract and have invited him to spring training to compete for the Cardinals back-up catcher job.
Hill will be fighting with Cardinals farmhands Bryan Anderson and Tony Cruz for the right to back-up Cardinals start catcher Yadier Molina, who led the club with a .305 batting average in 2011.
Hill will be 33 years old in March and hit .194 with two home runs in 46 games with "The Loveable Losers" last season.
Mozeliak likely is bringing in Hill for added depth at catcher behind some inexperienced youth, but he also may be dipping into that former Cubs well again just for good luck.
