Blues Fall To First Place Vancouver 3-2 In Overtime

St. Louis Blues fans were excited to see the first place Vancouver Canucks come to town on Thursday night.

The Canucks, who have virtually owned the Blues over the past several seasons, were in striking distance of first place in the Western Conference Standings.  With a win in regulation, the Blues could have moved into a tie for first place with the powerful Canucks.

Unfortunately, just 46 seconds into overtime, Vancouver's famous Sedin brothers quickly combined for a game winning goal, beating All-Star Brian Elliott as the Blues fell to the Canucks on their home ice at the Scottrade Centerin overtime by the score of 3-2.

The Blues fell behind early thanks to a Vancouver goal by Alex Burrows.  But the Blues answered with center Jason Arnott scoring two in a row to give the Blues a 2-1 lead before Burrows found the net for his second goal of the night near the end of the second period.

After playing a scoreless third period, the Blues entered overtime short-handed thanks to a David Backes penalty with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Sedin brothers did not need long to capitalize.  Henrik found Daniel to net the game-winner.

The overtime loss gives the Blues 56 points on the season as they have four more games in a row at home.

Arnott's two goals gave him 12 on the season.  Jamie Langenbrunner, Ian Cole, Alex Pietrangelo, and Cade Fairchild all picked up assists in the loss.

Elliott stopped 18 of the 21 shots he faced while the Blues fired 33 shots at Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo, capitalizing just twice.
