University of Missouri guard Marcus Denmon has been the offensive leader of head coach Frank Haith's Tigers all season.
Mizzou's leading scorer came into Friday night's road game at Old Dominion averaging 18.7 points per game. Luckily for the Tigers, Denmon got a little bit more than that as Denmon hit a clutch three pointer with just over one minute remaining in the second half to break a 67-67 in route to helping Mizzou to a 75-68 win.
The game in Norfolk, Virginia was 8th ranked Tigers first true road game. Mizzou had played games at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Madison Square Garden in New York City, and at the Scottrade Center.
But before Friday night's contest, their final tune-up before Big 12 Conference play begins, Mizzou traveled into hostile territory and home floor of their opponent for the first time this season. And for the first time this season, Mizzou trailed at half by the score of 35-33.
Mizzou struggled, but survived thanks to Denmon. Denmon scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half and came up huge when it counted, just like senior leaders do.
Mizzou also got a nice game from senior guard Kim English, who had a homecoming of sorts. English, who is from Baltimore which is near Norfolk, scored 16 points and hit 3 of his 4 three point attempts while grabbing six rebounds.
Senior forward Ricardo Ratliffe also played well and stayed out of foul trouble, scoring 14 points on just eight shots from the field and grabbed a team high 11 rebounds while blocking two shots.
Point guard Phil Pressey scored 14 points and notched seven assists in the win.
The victory by Mizzou makes it 13 in a row to start the season for Haith's Tigers and Mizzou will start their last season in the Big 12 with an unblemished record.
But most importantly, the Tigers are now road tested and behind Denmon, showed that they can play in any environment.
