Chris Long Takes Huge Strides In Rushing The Passer

After his first three seasons as a member of the St. Louis Rams, some were disappointed with the play of defensive end Chris Long.  The Rams drafted Chris Long second overall out of Virginia in the 2008 NFL Draft and to some and his production coming into 2011 had just not met the standards of a second overall pick.

Coming into to 2011, Long's career high in sacks was 8.5 in 2010 and career high in tackles was 43 in 2009.

In 2011, Long is a different kind of animal.  Literally.

Long has 12 sacks on the season through the Rams first 13 games, which is the sixth most in the NFL and one of the lone bright spots on a 2-11 Rams teams.

Long has quietly positioned himself as one of the top pass rushers in the NFL and some believe he may be selected to play in the Pro Bowl.

Long does not even want to talk about any Pro Bowl non-sense at this point in the season though.
"I don't even like talking about it.  I'm sure it's a great honor, but it's not really why I play the game. I can name four or five guys with bigger names and better careers than me who are in the NFC, so it's not even really an issue."
Long's sack numbers are even more impressive when you consider that he has been playing on a bad ankle over the past several weeks.  Long has been held out of practice for most of this week and is listed as "questionable" on the Rams official injury report.  But Long says he will be ready to play on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals at home at the Edward Jones Dome.
“The injury has been an up and down thing through the week, but Sundays are a sure thing.”
While Long says that seeing him on the field Sunday will be a sure thing, so will something else.  It will be a sure thing that Long will be in the backfield playing havoc on Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton.

Long has been doing it all season and there is no reason to suggest that he would slow down now.
