When the St. Louis Rams acquired wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, it was unclear whether they would be able to retain him beyond this season. Lloyd, who is 30 years old, will be a free agent at the end of the year and will be free to go wherever he chooses.
If Lloyd has his way, he will go wherever Rams offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels ends up. Lloyd says that he knows being with McDaniels is best for his career.
But maybe Lloyd should be fond of McDaniels. In Denver, with McDaniels as the head coach, Lloyd's career blossomed and he became an elite NFL receiver. During the 2010 season, Lloyd had 77 catches for an eye popping 1,448 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Lloyd's numbers since coming to St. Louis, while not quite as explosive, have been very good as well. In 10 games with the Rams, Lloyd has 45 receptions for 583 yards and four touchdowns while representing the Rams only threat on the outside.
Lloyd has been good for the Rams and the organization should certainly look to bring him back. Lloyd did say that he has enjoyed being part of the Rams organization and has embraced the city of St. Louis as well. Lloyd even told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he would like more time to work with second year quarterback Sam Bradford.

I would love to grow with Sam Bradford; that would be awesome. I've never had a true elite-level quarterback in my career."But if the Rams hope to bring Lloyd back, it looks as though they will need to bring his man-crush Josh McDaniels back as well. And with the uncertain future of Rams general manager Billy Devaney and head coach Steve Spagnuolo, there is just no guarantee that McDaniels will be back on the sidelines with the Rams next season.

ReplyDeleteWell the numbers show what works. So why would you not follow some one who knows your strengths. He dials up plays that are designed around Llyod specifically. The results are documented. But Football is a team sport. Without quality defenses or head coaching, Lloyd will wonder the field in hopes of a championship he will never attain..
