The St. Louis Blues, despite their healthy 20-10-4 record and 44 points on the season, still have trouble at times finding the back of net. The Blues rank just 19th in the NHL with 2.6 goals scored per game.
Some of those troubles could stem from the absence of center and play-maker Andy McDonald, who has missed all but three games this season with his second concussion in 10 months.
With their offense still rounding into shape with the recent return of forward David Perron from a similar injury, the Blues could use yet another bolt of energy on their front line. And while reports of McDonald being able to resume light activities, including skating, are encouraging, his return to the lineup still looks to be far off in the distance still.
Blues general manager Doug Armstrong made sure to clarify that McDonald's return to skates does not indicate that he is anywhere close to returning anytime soon.
McDonald is back on skates, but with the way concussions have been going in the NHL, don't expect him back on the ice in a Blues sweater anytime soon.

"Andy is at the point now where his doctors informed him that he can do some form of light exercise, and he just felt that instead of riding the bike or getting on the treadmill, he wanted to go for a light skate."
"It's certainly a positive sign, but I don't want to get people too excited. There's still a long way to go before he's back in our lineup. But any improvement is good improvement, and there has been improvement over the last eight weeks, where at least he's inducing some light exercise."While it is encouraging to see that McDonald is getting better, the Blues can not rely on his return anytime soon and must continue to find ways to find the back of the net in order to support the superior goaltending being provided by both Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak.
