Fresh off of their 76 Classic Tournament Championship in Anaheim, California, Rick Majerus and the St. Louis Billikens find themselves in an unfamiliar position.
The undefeated 6-0 Billikens are suddenly ranked among college basketball's Top 25.
The Saint Louis Billikens find themselves ranked 23rd in the AP Top 25 poll and 25th in the ESPN/USA Today Coach's Poll.
Majerus has the 2011 version of the Billikens playing the style of basketball fans envisioned when the big guy originally came to St. Louis.
A relentlessly efficient motion offense coupled with an agressive man-to-man defense has been too much for the likes of Boston College, Villanova, and even Oklahoma in the 76 Classic Championship game.
The Billikens have been led by senior forward Brian Conklin, who is averaging 17 points per game while shooting over 60 percent from the floor.
Point guard Kwamain Mitchell has returned to the club after sitting out last season due to suspension and has provided Majerus with the type of floor general the tactician covets. Mitchell is averaging 12.5 points per game.
The Billikens are not done in California just yet. After their three game tournament championship in Southern California, SLU will play a final game in California against Loyola Marymount on Tuesday before returning home.
Majerus and the Billikens have created a buzz in St. Louis with their early season play and Bills fans can only hope that the club returns home with a 7-0 record along with their Top 25 ranking.
