The struggles to begin the season of St. Louis Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak are well documented. Halak was absolutely awful to open the season, opening the door for Brian Elliott.
Elliott has stepped through that door and has taken advantage of the opportunity. In 12 games this season, Elliott has posted a league best 1.31 goals against average and a .951 save percentage. Absolutely dynamic numbers and coincidentally, the Blues are 10-1 when Elliott starts in net.
Halak, while bad early in the season, has been better since the arrival of Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock.
In October Halak had a goals against average of 3.58 and a save percentage of .843%. In November, Halak has been much better, posting a 1.64 goals against average and a .937% save percentage.
Halak clearly has been better of late, but still not as good as Elliott.
Hitchcock seems to be leaning towards using both goalies, especially as both have been playing well.
But having a goalie controversy is almost as bad as having a quarterback controversy. At some point, the Blues will need to go with one or the other.
Halak makes the big bucks, but Elliot has just been outstanding.
So what should the Blues do? Go with Elliott, who clearly has played better throughout the season? Go with Halak, who is paid like the number one goalie and has played well lately? Or should Hitchcock continue to play both about equally? Vote now!

As of right now...I would keep playing both...a little friendly competition never hurt anyone...just ask TLR...
ReplyDeleteThis could all change of course in the next two weeks if one starts playing poorly.

I think you have to go with both while hot.. Halak does like competition and maybe he can excel???? Who knows, but you have to love the way Elliot has been playing
