The St. Louis Rams are a miserable 0-6 to start the 2011 season.  With expectations high after narrowly missing the playoffs in 2010, it is easy to understand the disappointment among fans, players, coaches, and likely owner Stan Kroenke.

But saying the season has been a disappointment truly is an understatement.  The Rams have failed to even be competitive this season.  Four of the teams six losses have come by 18 points or more, including Sunday's 34-7 drubbing against the Dallas Cowboys.

After the Cowboys game on Sunday, which saw Dallas rookie running back DeMarco Murray scorch the Rams defense for 253 yards, Rams defensive end Chris Long summarized the Rams effort in much the same way many have been characterizing the season as a whole.
"It's pretty embarrassing, yeah."
Long did not stop there as he went on to explain the play of the Rams last ranked run defense specifically.
"It was terrible -- flat out.  We're going to have to see what was going on, but it was just terrible. It was terrible run defense."
Long, who is in his fourth season and is the son of NFL legend Howie Long, leads the Rams with three sacks on the season.  The former second overall draft pick has played relatively well and has developed into a nice NFL player.

But his description of the Rams defense and team as a whole is spot on and Long himself must step up even more if the Rams hope to be competitive as they host the New Orleans Saints this weekend at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

New Orleans can embarrass you very easily.  Just ask the Indianapolis Colts.

Which means it could be another long Sunday for the Rams and their putrid defense.
