After last week's blowout loss on the road against the Dallas Cowboys, St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long was not too happy.  In fact, Long said after the game that he was "embarrassed."

Fast forward one week later and Long is likely feeling very differently after the previously win-less Rams thumped the powerful New Orleans Saints 31-21 at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

Long was a big part of the success this week, recording three sacks on the afternoon and a pass deflection while helping to hold Saints quarterback Drew Brees to just 269 yards passing.

Long and the Rams defense played so well on Sunday against the Saints that Long even had a moment to pay homage to the World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals.  The Cardinals were in attendance on Sunday at the Dome and after one of his sacks, Long simulated a home run baseball swing.

Long's performance on Sunday gave the fourth year, former second overall pick six sacks in seven games this season.

Many have questioned whether Long would ever develop into a major pass rushing threat and it looks as if Long may finally be silencing some of his critics.

By the looks of it, Long is developing in other ways as well.  His comments about how "embarrassed" he was after the Dallas loss had to of been heard in the locker room and from the way the defense swarmed on Sunday, the message came across well.

Long and the Rams still have a long way to go, but Sunday's performance could set the stage for a nice second half of the season for the St. Louis Rams.

It will be interesting to see how many sacks Chris Long will have at the end of the season.
