Young, promising quarterback Sam Bradford is entering his second season and Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson was coming into the season healthy and ready to go.
But in their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, things did not go quite as planned. Both Bradford and Jackson left the game with injuries as Michael Vick led the Eagles to a 31-13 victory over the Rams at the Edward Jones Dome.
Jackson left the game after just two plays on the field, one of which was a 47 yard touchdown run to open the scoring in the game.
But things went down hill quickly from there as Vick turned into a magician, Eagles running back LeSean McCoy ran for over 100 yards, and the Rams succumbed to multiple injuries.
Vick threw for two touchdowns and 187 yards and ran for another 98 while McCoy had a receiving touchdown and 122 yards on the ground, including a 49 yard touchdown run to seal the victory.
Meanwhile the Rams offense was feeble. Bradford was highly ineffective, mainly due to multiple dropped passes by almost every receiver on the roster. Bradford was just 17 of 30 for 188 yards, including a lost fumble that resulted in an Eagles defensive touchdown.
And then there were the injuries.
Bradford left the game with an apparent thumb injury while Danny Amendola left with a dislocated elbow and may miss the entire season. On defense the Rams lost defensive backs Quinton Mikell and Ron Bartell to injuries.
So while expectations were high for Rams fans, the season opener immediately brought things back to reality.
It could be another long season for Rams football if things do not get turned around quickly.
