The St. Louis Cardinals acquired Rafael Furcal from the Los Angeles Dodgers just prior to the trade deadline with hopes that the veteran shortstop could solidify the team's defense up the middle and provide the spark needed at the top of the lineup to propel the team to a September playoff push.

Unfortunately, the Cardinals have fallen 9.5 games behind the first place Milwaukee Brewers, but Furcal has held up his end of the bargain.

Furcal has hit just .222 since coming over in the trade, but has blasted five home runs while playing spectacular defense.

Both the Cardinals and Furcal have recently said in the media that they would like to explore the possibility of Furcal coming back to the Cardinals next season.

"I love the city," Furcal said. "I'd want to play for St. Louis."

The problem is of course financial as Furcal has a hefty $12 million club option for next season.

Furcal, who has struggled to stay healthy recently, may be willing to renegotiate his contract for terms that are more favorable for the organization as the team will need to address the contracts of Albert Pujols and Chris Carpenter to name a few.

So, should the Cardinals try to bring Rafael Furcal back for next season?

Should they give Tyler Greene the opportunity to play shortstop next season?

Or should the Cardinals go after another free agent like Jose Reyes to address their shortstop dilemma?
