Langenbrunner's resume is chalked full of accomplishments. Langenbrunner has won two Stanley Cup Championships, served as captain of the U.S. Olympic team, and is an Olympic silver medal winner.
Langenbrunner has been around the block and seen nearly everything. So when he gives Blues forward David Backes praise, you know it means something.
"Being from Minnesota, I knew a little bit about Backes. Anytime you have someone from your home state (move up), you take notice of them. He’s a great player. He plays the game the right way, plays it hard, plays it physical, plays it straight up. You know you’re going to get an honest effort from him every night, and he’s a great guy to set the tone for the team."The Blues ended last season without a captain after they traded Erik Brewer away prior to the trade deadline and Langenbrunner would seem like an obvious option to wear the C on his sweater.
But based off his comments on Backes, Langenbrunner may be endorsing the younger Backes as the leader of this team.
The Blues will need an official leader to help guide them back to playoffs and Backes could be the choice.
And if the Blues do decide to go with Backes, he'll have plenty of help leading the troops with Langenbrunner at his side.
