So now that Ozzie Guillen has finally left the south-side of Chicago, rumors have naturally began to swirl.
Many believe that Reinsdorf and the White Sox will be interested in bringing La Russa back to Chicago. La Russa began his illustrious and future Hall of Fame managing career with the White Sox.
La Russa, prior to his team's crucial contest against the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, did not confirm or deny if and of the rumors have any validity.
"I have an issue with me answering any speculation because it's exactly the opposite of what the club should be getting from a guy who is making out the lineup."
With the Cardinals trailing the Atlanta Braves by just one game in the National League Wild Card race entering Tuesday night's game, La Russa is right not to speak on the subject of his future.
His future should be focused on right now as the Cardinals have a made a miraculous run. With the help of monstrous meltdown by the Braves, the Cardinals have rallied from 10 games back and are on the verge of possibly qualifying for the playoffs pending the results of the next two nights and a possible one game playoff.
The Cardinals have faced a variety of distractions this year including a revolving closer situation and most notably the Albert Pujols contract saga.
So for the rumors about La Russa to the White Sox to come up right now certainly is unfortunate and hopefully does not effect the team over the next two days.
Likely it won't. Not with La Russa at the helm. His team will be focused and ready to compete as usual.
But it will be interesting to follow what happens with La Russa and his future once the season ends, whether that begins on Wednesday night, Thursday night, or later in October.
