After the St. Louis Cardinals watched the Philadelphia Phillies defeat the Atlanta Braves, they rejoiced and celebrated knowing that they had now miraculously qualified for the playoffs.

Cardinals manager Tony La Russa was quick to salute the Phillies and their manager Charlie Manuel for their integrity and playing hard even though the last three games of the season did not matter for them.

On Friday, Manuel returned the favor and praised the Cardinals.
"If (the Cardinals ) play right and things fall for them, they could go all the way."
"They're playing good, especially the last two or three weeks of the season and, without a doubt, we've got our work cut out."
"They got down and they hung in there and they fought just like we did when we caught the Mets a couple of times. That's basically why they're in the playoffs."
It is obvious that La Russa and Manuel have an enormous amount of respect for each and the players on the opposing side.

But all of this nice talk is likely to end once the first pitch is thrown on Saturday at 4:07 CT in Philadelphia.  Both men have proven that they are fierce competitors and their teams have taken on their persona almost literallly over time.

So the five game series between the Cardinals and Phillies will be sure to have high profile managers, great pitching, and fierce competition between two teams that truly respect each other.
