Mizzou Loses Elvis Fisher For Season

Less than a week after being named to ESPN's Preseason All-Big 12 team, Mizzou offensive tackle Elvis Fisher had a freak accident that ended his season before it even started.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Fisher will undergo surgery to repair his knee.  Fisher suffered the injury during one-on-one blocking drills and will be out the entire season.

Head coach Gary Pinkel expressed his sympathy for his senior tackle who has started 40 games already in his outstanding career.  But Pinkel also knows that the injury provides an opportunity for somebody else to step up in his place.
"I really feel bad for Elvis. ... That's the toughest thing that you go through personally as a coach.  I use the term move 'em over and move 'em up. We're very caring and (concerned) about the player, but the bottom line is we've got to play football and we've got to win football. So other guys have opportunities."
Many experts believe that Fisher had a chance to taken in the first round of this year's NFL Draft.  His 6 foot 5 inch, 295 pound build certainly fits the bill of an NFL tackle.

But the loss of Fisher will certainly hurt the Tigers offense this season, which looks to rely more on a running game led by multi-talented sophomore quarterback James Franklin.

Pinkel and the Tigers must put the loss of Fisher behind them quickly as they prepare for their season.  Fisher's injury will be a true test of the depth and development of Pinkel's program as the team will rely on an inexperience player to protect Franklin's blind side.
