St. Louis Cardinals rookie reliever Lance Lynn has accomplished plenty to impress everyone in St. Louis during his first season in the big leagues.
The former starter turned set-up man from Ole Miss had quickly become manager Tony La Russa's favorite reliever to turn to in the 8th inning. It was a role that Lynn had become very comfortable with.
"My goal would be to be back by the 15th, maybe sooner," Lynn told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The Cardinals can only hope that Lynn is correct since he has been so stellar in the role.
Since making his first relief appearance in St. Louis on June 24th, Lynn has allowed just three earned runs in 23.1 innings pitched while striking out 32 hitters.
Lynn has been dominant in his inherited set-up role and Cardinals fans can only hope that the reliever's optimism holds true.
It can only help the Cardinals during the stretch drive in this year's heated pennant chase with the Milwaukee Brewers.

"It was something I was starting to get the hang of and something I was starting to do pretty well. I'll keep trying to build off what I was doing and keep trying to improve when I get back."Unfortunately, Lynn suffered an oblique strain that sent the flame throwing right-hander to the disabled list on August 9th. Lynn is hoping for a quick return to the Cardinals bullpen despite a diagnosis that could keep him shelved for up to four to six weeks.
