Haith Lands Florida Recruit

Frank Haith and the Missouri Tigers basketball program has been under severe scrutiny since allegation from former University of Miami booster and currently jailed Nevin Shapiro linked Haith together.

Many fans and boosters of Mizzou feel that Haith is now damaged goods and that recruits will not feel inclined to Mizzou as long as the cloud hangs over the program.

Don't tell that to Shawn Smith, a six foot, four inch guard out of Florida, who gave Haith and the Missouri Tigers a verbal commitment on Friday.

When asked why he chose Mizzou by the Columbia Tribune, Smith said it simply came down to the relationship he has built with Haith and the Missouri coaching staff.
“I chose Missouri because of the relationships — the relationship I had with the coach who was recruiting me, Coach Chew, and I really fell in love with Coach Haith.  That kind of played a big part in my decision. … I felt like that was the best school I had the relationship with.”
According to ESPN, Smith was also considering West Virginia, Florida State, and Cincinnati before choosing the Tigers.  Smith is ranked as the number three recruit in the state of Florida and the 22nd ranked shooting guard in the country according to ESPN's scouting service.

So while Haith and the Tigers await the conclusion of Haith's possible shenanigans while with his former employer, Haith should be very happy of landing a nice recruit like Smith.
