Unfortunately, behind a sub-par performance by starting pitcher Jake Westbrook coupled with yet another Brewers victory, the Cardinals have fallen six games behind in the standings as the Cardinals fell to the Pirates 6-2.
Westbrook lasted just 5.2 innings, allowing nine hits and five runs, four of which were earned while picking up the loss for the Cardinals.
Catcher Ryan Doumit did most of the damage for the Pirates, going 4 for 4 on the night, including a three run home run off of Westbrook in the fourth inning to give the Pirates what was then a 4-1 lead.
While Westbrook struggled on the mound on Monday night the Cardinals did little against Pittsburgh starter James McDonald.
Rafael Furcal and David Freese picked up the team's only two RBI's on the evening. Slugger Matt Holliday was 2 for 4 on the evening while Ryan Theriot, who was playing second base, was 3 for 4 on the night.
Albert Pujols was just 1 for 4 on the night with a pair of strikeouts as the Cardinals dropped their record to 65-57 on the season.

We get Westbrook for another year, too. At least next season will be a cakewalk in the Central...
