Tyler Gabbert Officially Transfers To Louisville

It was certainly odd when word came out of Columbia that red-shirt freshman quarterback Tyler Gabbert announced that he would leave the University of Missouri without a specific or clear place to transfer.

Earlier this week, the picture became a bit more clear.

Gabbert, the younger brother of former Mizzou standout QB and first round selection of the Jacksonville Jaguars Blaine Gabbert, has enrolled at Louisville and will officially transfer to become a member of the Cardinals.

Louisville coach Charlie Strong confirmed the Gabbert transfer through a tweet on Thursday morning.

"I'm excited to have Tyler Gabbert officially join our football program."

Gabbert's decision to transfer to Louisville is almost as baffling as his decision to leave Mizzou.

Gabbert left Mizzou after seeing sophomore quarterback James Franklin's name at the top of the depth chart after spring practice.  Franklin had not been named the starter by head coach Gary Pinkel and all indications pointed towards Mizzou having a quarterback competition for the first time since Brad Smith took over at the position.

Gabbert will be stepping into a similar situation at Louisville who has a true freshman quarterback named Teddy Bridgewater.  Bridgewater was a high profile recruit and will likely start as a freshman while Gabbert sits out another season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Gabbert will have three years of eligibility remaining after the upcoming season.
