According to a report by Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis Cardinals and Albert Pujols believe that the slugger could return before the all-star break.
A CT scan performed on Friday found that the tip of Pujols' left radius had shown dramatic improvement and that Pujols could be available right after the all-star break and maybe even before.
Strauss reports that the club wishes to remain cautious with Pujols, but concedes that it is possible that Pujols could return to the lineup when the club hosts the Arizona Diamondbacks later this week.
Pujols, who is hitting .279 with 17 home runs and 45 RBI's, has been on the disabled list since fracturing his left wrist in a collission on June 19th. The original prognosis had the Cardinals optimistic that their slugger could return after missing four to six weeks.
If Pujols is able to heal this quickly and return to the lineup in the midst of a grueling pennant race with the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds, it will only add to his growing legend.
Pujols has possibly had the best start to his 10 year career than any other player in major league history. So not only has Pujols' play on the field been unbelievable, his quick recovery from this serious injury will also be incredible!
Teams wishing to add Pujols this off-season when he becomes a free agent will be watching as well. Pujols will need to show that his power is intact despite the injury to his wrist.
And if he does return to form, not only will clubs be drawn to his ability to pound the ball all over the field, but also to his miraculous ability to heal.
Giving him a long-term contract after watching him return from a serious injury just might become easier for some owners hungry to add his bat and image to their franchise.
