A late surge in the voting pushed Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp in front of Holliday, moving the slugger from Oklahoma to the bench.
But a later injury to Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun has moved Holliday into the starting lineup for the National League in Tuesday night's All-Star game being held in Arizona.
Holliday will join Cardinals outfielder Lance Berkman in the starting, giving the Cardinals two starters in the Midsummer Classic.
Holliday and Berkman have hit back-to-back most of the season, but Tuesday night things will be flipped around. Holliday has generally hit in front of Berkman all season. In the All-Star game, Berkman will hit sixth for the National League while Holliday will bat seventh.
Holliday also participated in the Home Run Derby on Monday night, hitting five first round home runs before losing in a "swing-off" to David Ortiz and Prince Fielder.
Holliday is hitting .324 on the season with 14 home runs and 49 RBI's.
