The St. Louis Cardinals were hoping that Eduardo Sanchez would be returning from the disabled list soon to strengthen the back-end of their shaky bullpen.

Unfortunately, the 22 year old flame-thrower will not be back for at least an additional six weeks.

Sanchez felt discomfort in a recent rehab appearance for Double AA Springfield and the organization has confirmed that the rookie, who likely would be the eighth inning set-up man for closer Fernando Salas, will be shut down for additional time.

Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch received a text message from general manager John Mozeliak confirming that Sanchez will be shut down for an additional six weeks.
"He will be shut down for six weeks, then be re-evaluated."
The Cardinals, who are in need of pitching help both in the back-end of the bullpen and starting rotation, desperately needed Sanchez to return.

The rookie had been dynamic before injuring his shoulder in early June.

Sanchez has made 25 appearances for the Cardinals this season, posting a 1.88 ERA while closing five games during a stint as interim closer.  Sanchez has received credit for seven holds on the season in set-up duty and has struck out 33 hitters in 28.1 innings on the season.
