The Blues have signed goaltender Brian Elliot to a one year contract according to the team's website.
“We were looking for a goaltender to come in and compete with Ben Bishop for the second spot behind Jaroslav Halak,” said Blues general manager Doug Armstrong. "This move strengthens our goaltending position in the organization."
It is possible that the move signals that the Blues are still not comfortable with their goalie situation.
Halak is clearly the number one option in net, but has been injury prone and missed significant time last season.
The move also signals that the Blues are not completely confident that Bishop is ready to make the leap to the NHL on a full-time basis, even as a back-up netminder.
Elliot comes to the Blues after appearing in 55 games for the Ottawa Senators and Colorado Avalanche last season. Elliot had a combined 15-27-9 record last season with a 3.34 goals against average.
