St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Ryan Theriot has had his share of struggles in the field this season for the Cardinals, committing 10 errors in 49 games played.

But general manager John Mozeliak and manager Tony La Russa did not want Theriot's glove when they acquired him this past off-season.  They wanted his bat.  And Theriot certainly is coming through at the plate.

After going 2 for 4 in Wednesday night's 7-5 extra innings loss to the San Francisco Giants, Theriot suddenly and quietly has put together a nice 15 game hitting streak.

Theriot has been excellent this season in the lead-off spot not only during this 15 game hitting streak, but virtually all season.  Theriot is hitting .303 with 20 RBI's and 20 runs scored in front of the Cardinals powerful middle of the order.

So while fans may complain about Theriot's shaky defense in the field, Theriot's performance at the plate this season was exactly what the Cardinals were looking for out of their shortstop.
