St. Louis Cardinals middle infield prospect Pete Kozma was called up to the major leagues for the second time this season in order to provide support to defensively challenged middle infielders Skip Schumaker and Ryan Theriot.

Unfortunately for Kozma, his second stint with the major league club may be just as short as his first.

Cardinals veteran utility infielder Nick Punto will begin a rehab assignment on Monday, joining the Double A Springfield Cardinals as their designated hitter as he continues to recover from a strained right forearm.

Punto has been on the disabled list since May 18th and had played well for the Cardinals when he was healthy.  Punto was hitting .262 with 11 RBI's in 25 games before going down and visiting the disabled list for the second time this season.  Punto's return will provide La Russa's bench with a jolt as Punto is a wizard on defense and can hit from both sides of the plate.

In the meantime, Kozma will hopefully gain some valuable experience and hope to improve on the .125 average he posted during his first go-around with the big league club.
